The Vision
BNHS has protected India’s biodiversity since 1883. The task was to bring 140 years of that work online: a modern, accessible website that carries the institution’s weight while feeling open and alive, and ready for its next chapter.
The Challenge
Over more than a decade, BNHS had built a deep well of research and programmes. But the site grew with it, until dense structures and dated visuals made that knowledge hard to find and harder to maintain. Its depth had started working against itself.
The Solution
I reworked the website and the brand together, from a discovery workshop through a clearer architecture, a refreshed visual language, and key product flows. Earlier work on BNHS’s internal tools meant I arrived with real context, not a blank slate.
Designing for Discovery
I rebuilt the experience around discovery. Dense information became clear pathways and intuitive flows, so researchers and the public could move through BNHS’s work with confidence, without losing any of its depth.
Designing for an Interdependent World
No species exists in isolation, and the visual system says so. Layered forms, textures, and wildlife imagery keep ecosystems present across the site, turning a research archive into something people feel, not just read.
From Research to a Living, Shared Knowledge Base
I built the platform to grow with its community. Researchers and nature enthusiasts can contribute sightings, photos, and field notes together, turning institutional research into a living, shared knowledge base that helps BNHS scale conservation insight as the archive grows.
A Living Record of India’s Biodiversity
At the centre sits a structured species library spanning animals, birds, trees, and butterflies. Each page holds field characters, distribution, taxonomy, and research: depth without clutter, and a hub built to keep growing with the archive.
Streamlining Membership, Events, and Contributions
Member actions used to route through a single point of contact, slowing people down and adding complexity for the internal team. I brought them into one place: members can log in, explore memberships, register for events, adopt a species, and contribute to conservation from one dashboard, so BNHS can manage engagement efficiently at scale.
